I have been exploring Tikatok some more. I really like how user friendly the site is for young students. After students pick a topic, they can start adding text to the text boxes. Some pages have sentence starters and suggestions for what to add. Many of my students struggle with writing and always tell me I don't know what to write. After typing, they can add pictures by clicking on the box and selecting a picture. Students click on an arrow to move ahead or back. After students finish their books, they can save and preview the book in a pdf.
I have added a few screen shots of a book I started to make to show the step by step process.
I am planning on sharing this site with my teammates and sending a parent consent form home so that we can get started on creating storybooks.

I think I saw this on someone else's blog, but I really like this idea. Though, I think it's a little too simple for middle school. The first thing that comes to mind with this is for a student service learning project where my 6th or 7th graders would make these electronic books for students in the lower grades. Gotta get those hours somehow!
ReplyDeleteThere are other templates for older students to use. I just used a basic template for this example. But I like the idea of having your middle school students create books for lower grades.
ReplyDeleteWow! I really like this website. I had never heard of it before and I decided to take a trip to see what was what. I think, as you said, this is a great tool for those students who struggle with getting started with a story, but it is also a great tool for older students who just want to publish their work. While I agree with Sherri that this might be a little too juvenile for middle school and high school students, I think that the varying levels can appeal to any grade in the elementary school level. Great find!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! I think that this may be useful for all subject areas and all grade levels in someway. It looks like a great way to get more writing into everyday lessons.
